Have you ever left your parrot out of it’s cage when you left on accident?

I don’t leave my conure out when I am gone and I always watch him when he is out. Just one day I left his cage door open on accident and freaked out! I always try to picture him in his cage in my head before I leave so I don’t worry.

It’s not a good idea to leave your bird out when your gone. Your bird might wander off somewhere, and you wouldn’t be able to find him/her. Or when you come home, and open the door, your bird could fly out of the house

Oh my yes! A cockatiel and I have 2 cats. It was hours before I realized I couldn’t remember caging him, because he spent hours just hanging around on top of his cage. I rushed home and found him asleep inside his cage. Thank God.

my dad just leaves him on his stand and forgets him all the time!!! he just sits there and doesnt hesitate to move unless something scares him reallllly bad! but usually he just sits there and whistles! but if we are gonna be gone (meaning all of us) my dad MAKES SURE he’s in the cage!
btw he’s the only one the bird will let touch him!!!!

Yes, and I was so worried! I forgot that I left her in front of a mirror in my room. I normally don’t let her stay by herself but I totally forgot. When I remembered, I couldn’t find her in my room because I didn’t even close the door. I had to keep whistling until she flew to me. I recommend to always supervise your parrot unless well trained to fly back to you. Also leaving them unattended creates a bigger risk that they will get wedged in to something (a small space) or get injured.

I **** to say this but years ago my very first birds where Parakeets and I always let them out when I was home and caged them if I left. One day we were going out of town and were packing and forgot the birds cage was open. When we got home they were gone. Our cat was in the house but no feathers to be found. I did find both of them dead under my son’s dresser. I think they got scared of the cat and hid under the dresser. Very sad day.
I have 10 birds now and they are always caged as a part of leaving the house before we go ANYWHERE!
