How do I get my baby senegal parrot to not absolutely **** its cage?

I recently asked another question regarding my new addition to the family….a young Senegal parrot Sprite and everyone was so helpful. I was wondering if any of you experienced bird folk know a way to keep her from hating cage time? I do allow her a good amount of time outside the cage as she’s content to sit on her cage or cage door…but the idea of going into the cage makes her quite upset. She will try to refuse to put her feet down when it comes time. Once she is in the cage, she will either squawk or run around the bottom looking for a way through the grate(she thinks she can get out this way). I **** to see her so miserable when she goes in but don’t understand her distaste. I know being free is of course better but she has multiple perches, toys, and fresh food and water to keep her occupied. Is this just a rite of passage for a young baby that was recently weaned and introduced to a cage? Thanks for any advice, I’m learning as I go guys!

Try setting up perches so she can sit up high as birds like to do. Next, set up tons of toys to keep her occupied. Mirrors and shinny objects are great toys for parrots.

First, NO MIRRORS! This will cause the bird not to bond with you.
This is something that happens with all babies. They want to either be out of the cage, with you, or in their nice warm brooder. It takes a while for them to learn to love the cage, but it’ll happen. You can try giving her a treat through the bars right after you close the door so that she likes going back to the cage.
edit: You can also try to make the cage more “friendly” by putting a heat pad/lamp in the cage or a warm towel just out of the dryer. This will make her feel more at home because it will be warm like her brooder.
