I just got a Quaker Parrot. How much time a day should I let her/him out of the cage?

I don’t want to over do it, but I don’t want to under do it either. Also, at what point should I let my other pets in the room with her? I have 5 dogs and 4 cats. I haven’t let them in the room since I got her because I don’t want them to make her nervous. The dogs and cats like to lay on my bed and the bird cage is on my dresser across from my bed.

What do you all think? This is my first experience with a bird, and I might be a little over my head.

If you were in a cage, how many times a day would you want out? Keep those other pets in another room when the parrot is out.. Put a cover on its cage, not blocking air, at night it will feel more secure..Don’t let it get in a draft when it gets cold outside. Again be extremely careful with those cats or you will have a tragedy on your hands…

My mom raised birds our whole life, when she brought them in the house to hand feed them she would lock the cats & dogs out of her room about a week to let the baby adjust. after that they were allowed to roam around freely.
We left our birds on the purch (provided we were home) all day. we left it near the cage so if the bird wanted it could go in and out freely.

Hiya kat! I’d give the parrot a week or so to get used to the new surroundings. Then introduce the others but make sure they respect the parrot’s space, especially the cats LOL. I used to introduce my dogs by bringing them into the room and put them in a down/stay away from the parrots cage and when I felt that was going all right I’d let them be, but I was close by to keep an eye on things. If the parrot gets upset you can always back it off and go slower, but I never had a problem if I just took things slow and easy. And how much time the parrot spends out of the cage really depends on how much you can do it consistently on a regular basis I think. I’m no expert, but my parrot seems happy and healthy and he only gets a couple hours out a day. But neither is he in a room where he’s by himself for the most part.
You’re not over your head and I have no doubt you’ll do just fine. And congrats on the new addition to the family
