Is it normal for my parrot to randomly get scared?

August 15th, 2009 | by Adrian |
I let my parrot sit on top of her cage alot of the time, she sits right behind me. Randomly she will get spooked at nothing and jump off onto the couch or like today, we haven’t clipped her wings in 3 weeks she flew off into another room. Nothing was moved or put near her cage to scare her, she was randomly scared. Is this normal? It only happens with her, none of our other birds. I have 7 others, she was our first and is an amazon who is about 3yrs old, not our oldest. Also, she is sometimes scared of blankets, but she likes being covered up at night with them and likes to lay with us under them at night when watching tv. Is it normal to parrots to sometimes get spooked? Maybe they sense something?
She pretty much freezes and will let you touch her, move her wings, pet her, she doesn’t lift her crown feathers or move or even blink when she is scared. Is something wrong with her or is this normal? I really would like to know, this happens ever so often and I want to know if she may be sick so I can take her to the vet. thanks

i highly doubt she is sick- she is flying, playing under the covers with you.
my bird does something like that too.
he will randomly just fall off his cage for no reason.
i think something outside the window may have spooked him but my other guess is that, because his wings are clipped, he just was clumsy and fell off. Or he could have been trying to get down and fell off.
the only thing i can tell you is that parrots have a lot going on in their minds that we will never understand, lol. im sure you will agree with 8 parrots :D
    good luck!

yes, it is normal. some birds are more sensitive than others and spook easy. It could be something a small as a shadow or something on the tv that spooks her, something you wouldn’t even think of or notice yourself.
