I just aquired a 6 yr old African Grey parrot , how do I get it to not bite me?

July 31st, 2010
I now own an African Grey that was my deceased sisters. I would like to know the best way to get him to accept me as his new owner. I have had him for a few months and am going very slow with him as I understand they are hard to switch to a new person. I would like to know the best way to handle him as he is very nice, but will still try to bite me when I put my hand in his cage. He is 6 years old and quite delightful with his talking. He has my car alarm down perfect and does that each time my husband or I go out the door.

Help why is my bird tearing up the paper on the bottom of it’s cage?

July 30th, 2010
it’s a quaker parrot that we’ve had for about 4 years now and just 3 weeks ago he started tearing up the paper we’ve always put on the bottom of his cage to catch his poo and stuff ya know. He tears it to shreds and we have no idea why or how to get him to stop.

I have a parrot and a new 5 month Vizsla puppy. Can I train the dog to not be aggressive towards the bird?

July 30th, 2010
We have a 6 year old African Grey that is a part of the family. He likes to be on top of his cage and always in the same room as us. Sometimes he flies down to the ground. Yesterday, we adapted a 5 month Vizsla puppy. She is very hyper and freaked out when she saw the bird. I don’t want to keep the bird in a cage all the time but I’m concerned about his safety. Is is possible to train the dog to not be aggressive towards the bird? Does anyone have birds and dogs cohabitating in the same house?

why do my senegal parrot feed another senegal?

July 29th, 2010
According to the petshop owner my 2 senegals are both 5 months old now. I’ve put them in the same cage a month ago. Now suddenly one of them started to feel the other one that I hand fed since I’ve got him. I also discovered that they are not from the same breed and just wondered if this behavour is normal or maybe one is older than the other. Is this a normal “bond” behavour or not?

A woman went to a pet shop & immediately spotted a large, beautiful parrot. There was a sign on the cage that?

September 19th, 2009
said $50.00, which seemed awfully cheap. “Why so little,” she asked the pet store owner. The owner looked at her seriously and said, “Look, I should tell you first that this bird used to live in a house of Prost*tution and sometimes it says some pretty vulgar stuff.” The woman thought about this, but decided she had to have the bird anyway. She took it home and hung the bird’s cage up in her living room and waited for it to say something. The bird looked around the room, then at her, and said, “New house, new madam.” The woman was a bit shocked at the implication, but then found it kind of amusing. When her 2 teenage daughters returned from school, the bird saw them enter and said, “New house, new madam, new girls.” The girls and the woman were a bit offended but then began to laugh about the situation Considering how and where the Parrot had had been raised. Moments later, the woman’s husband came home from work.
The bird looked at him and said, “Hi, Keith!” :)

How do you get a parrot to step onto your hand when you put it next to him?

September 19th, 2009
I’ve had a princess of wales parrot and two budgies for nearly three months and they still bounce around in the cage like ping pong balls when I get close to them. (except the parrot) I’m trying to get them to perch on my hand when I place it next to them. How do I do that? Also, how can I tell that I can take all of the birds out of the cage without letting them fly away?
